With Cushing's After treatment

Code 2055, Fall 2005
Hi, I am Tim Turner, from Seattle, WA. I had ectopic Cushing’s caused by a lung carcinoma. I was treated by the University of Washington as well as the NIH. I had surgery in December of 2001, and have since been slowly recovering. The photos are with Cushing’s and after the surgery.

"I was finally diagnosed in February, 2003 after going through at least 8 doctors to get the correct diagnosis. At first, all my symptoms were blamed on hypertension, diabetes, hyperglycemia, and the birth of my 3rd child in 2002. I had surgery to remove an adrenal tumor on April 23, 2003. My doctor took me off all replacement medications about 1 month after surgery and since then, my recovery has been extremely difficult. I find that I cannot take care of my children and household the way I would like and working is next to impossible. I am very thankful that I was finally diagnosed and have lost all the weight, but I continue to look forward to the day when I feel myself again! My story sounds like so many others, so I guess I will just wait it out! I would love to hear from others!"

"The picture of my husband and I was taken on our honeymoon in May of 1998. Then, we did not know something was terribly wrong with me !!! By March, 1999 almost a full year later, we were certain something was wrong and I was finally diagnosed with Cushing's (Thank God!) in May, 1999. I had my adrenal tumor taken out in June 1999 and by December of 2000, I was so thankful to have had a FULL recovery and to be back in a bikini! Then on December 25th, 2001 I gave birth to my sweet little angel Danny; the picture of us was taken in July 2002. I no longer suffer from any symptoms of Cushings, although I can never forget how awful it was. I encourage anyone suffering to reach out to people who have been through it, we truly understand. I am thankful for making some of my best friends through this awful experience, my Cushie friends are the only reason I will ever say "I'm glad I had Cushings !" I love them dearly"

After only 5 months, I could tell an incredible difference and now, after 10 months, even more so. I felt so very bad and frustrated before surgery that I slammed my hand down and broke it. After that, I decided it would be better to "Fight the Cush" with the hulk hands!! Now, I'm still recovering, but am so thankful that after many doctors and about 7 years, I am on the road to recovery!!"

Code: 1064 "My son Richard was diagnosed with Cushing's in January 2001 at age 18 months after six months of inconclusive testing and lots of worry. His Cushing's was caused by an adrenal tumor and his surgery (single adrenalectomy) was also January 2001. He was fully recovered and off hormone replacement by May 2001. Today he's a healthy five-year-old with one adrenal gland and more energy than most children his age.

With the exception of the surgeon, my son's doctors (two pediatricians and one pediatric endocrinologist) seemed either unaware or poorly informed about Cushing's. To my dismay, I did a better job diagnosing my son's problem combing medical reports on the Internet. Thankfully, CSRF stands ready to provide information and support to others who go through this experience. I would like to help others as I don't doubt that there are other families going through similar experiences right now with the same ignorance and fears we had."

It has been 4 years since my adrenalectomy and I am so grateful to be healthy again, thanks to the support and prayers of family, friends and doctors."

"It will be 7 years August 15, since my adrenalectomy (right). With my strong faith in God and the support of wonderful doctors, family and friends, my road to recovery is but a memory that has helped me grow to a degree that I never would have imagined. I am blessed to have recovered and resumed my life as it was prior to that nightmare and truly enjoy every moment of everyday to an extent beyond description."
