I had an adrenal gland removed and like others, went through that awful waking up period. It took over 3 years for my remaining adrenal to take over. Part of this may have been my inability to successfully taper due to extreme body pain and pain syndromes that I went through about 6 months following surgery. I started seeing a new endo doc about 2 years into this and he drew up a very intricate tapering plan for me, which I was able to follow, but still experienced the body pain some but was able to get through it with ibuprofen or Aleve. The tapers would be as small as 1 to 1.5 MG at a time. I also followed a good nutrition plan along with walking or light exercise. After having been through this, I think it is very important for everyone to work together with their doctor to develop a tapering schedule that they can deal with, since this is a very critical period in recovery. I believe that if I had not found Dr. Duda in Springfield, MO. I may not have been able to do this and may have had to continue with replacement steroid. The best thing is that after making it through that waking up period, I feel much better than I have in a number of years!! Feel free to contact me!
