Organ Donation

Question: Can someone with active Cushing’s or cured Cushing’s be an organ donor?

Answer: There are usually criteria based on the overall health of the donor and specifics that relate to the health of specific organs that dictate this. Decisions about which organs are suitable are made by transplant teams not endocrinologists. If a current or past Cushing’s patient desires to be an organ donor, they should indicate so on their drivers license or donor card and make their family aware of their wishes, however, the final decision will be made by the transplant team.
